2298 In times past, cruel practices were commonly used by legitimate governments to maintain law and order, often without protest from the Pastors of the Church, who themselves adopted in their own tribunals the prescriptions of Roman law concerning torture. Regrettable as these facts are, the Church always taught the duty of clemency and mercy. She forbade clerics to shed blood. In recent times it has become evident that these cruel practices were neither necessary for public order, nor in conformity with the legitimate rights of the human person. On the contrary, these practices led to ones even more degrading. It is necessary to work for their abolition. We must pray for the victims and their tormentors.Sad state of affairs when you have to state the obvious. Torture is wrong.
as we all know there are many versions of the bible. why?
ReplyDeletebecos of different styles of translation and most importantly each denomination ALTERED n butchered the "orginal" scriptures to suit their own doctrine, to match their own INTERPRETATIONS.
the catholic church is no different, so can anything they say abt torture really be trusted even for the religious??
to answer that question we need to probe the real history of how the bible came to be..

is the bible really inspired by the holy spirit?? well, with all the inconsistencies and numerous different interpretations and disagreements between each christian denominations, one can easily come to an logical conclusion.
With all the scientific inconsistencies and numerous different interpretations of experiments and disagreements between each scientific theory, one can easily come to an logical conclusion that science is bs.
ReplyDeleteyour attempt at a rhetorical sleight-of-hand is a amateurish one.
ReplyDeletethere are scientific theories and there are scientific facts.
ppl can disagree on scientific theory n can take different interpretations on that, becos it is THEORY.
scientific facts are seldom disputed n there is little room to interpret it differently.
in an apple n orange comparison u r making a logical fallacy.
the bible is claimed to be the TRUTH, so? to me it is reasonable to demand that the truth cannot allow for even 1 percent of error, for truth with errors is BS.
if u claim that the bible is THEORY, then u do not need to make any pleading, i will automatically grant that errors are allowed.
factual science claims to only be what is its, it does not claim to be DA TRUTH.
theoretical science does not claim to be DA TRUTH either.
so.. who claims to be DA TRUTH? the bible. ergo, the TRUTH will be held to live up to it billing.
if science claims that 2 hydrogen atoms plus 1 oxygen atom make 1 water molecule n experiment proves it to be wrong, then it is indeed BS, if that happens u don't even need to argue, i will automatically agree that it is BS.
I am a student in a catholic school, and we are having a debate on torture, i am supposed to debate that under certain circumstances it is ok to torture a person.
ReplyDeleteIn times of war is it not sometimes necessary to torture a person to receive information that is pertinent to keeping the peace?
Let the credibility lie with the people who can argue in the language.
